ERICA JACKSON, CPT
My fitness career started in 1990 when I was a sophomore in high school. I was inspired & motivated by my family’s obesity and unhealthy lifestyles to not make the same decisions and lifestyle choices that they had made. So I started with an old stationary bike, soup cans, water jugs and a marathon of ESPN fitness shows that jump started my love for a healthier lifestyle. My love for fitness led me to share that passion with others who needed guidance, motivation, and instruction toward achieving their fitness goals. In 2006, I obtained my Personal Training certification and have since trained and educated numerous people on the steps and tools to living a healthier and active lifestyle.
Certifications
World Instructors Training School (W.I.T.S)- since 2006
-Youth Fitness Specialist
International Youth Conditioning Association (IYCA)- since 2009
CPR-Certified
Achievements
Certificate of Training - PTO Personal Training Academy Class of 2007
Training Philosophy
"No Pain, No Gain" this old cliché is part of my daily life. In order for me to grow mentally, physically, emotionally & spiritually I must first understand and embrace the pain of self denial. Self denial for me is stepping outside of the box of familiarity and exploring life as I have never known it. To think differently, to workout harder, to push myself onward toward success, to embrace life's new experiences even when it hurts so good is what I live for. This is the inspiration and hope that I will continue to pass on to each and every one of my clients.
Personal Interest/hobbies
Working with the youth population to combat the growing rate of childhood obesity . I also enjoy spending time at the beach, rollerblading, road trips with my daughter, making people laugh, dancing, eating and learning new and fun things.

Training philosophy
“Get off the couch and start running!!” With sedentary lifestyles the norm for most Americans and obesity prevalent throughout this country’s population, now more than ever, it is imperative for individuals to take charge of their own lives by participating in physical activity every day and carefully managing their eating habits. Although I enjoy helping people become better runners or meet other athletic goals, my focus as a Personal Trainer is to help people achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles. Aside from the technical knowledge and skills I can offer as a Personal Trainer, I hope to emphasize the personal aspects of this career by patiently working with individuals to embrace healthy habits and activities that may be second nature to Personal Trainers, but may be extremely difficult for many individuals to accept as their own. One of the special interests I hope to pursue will be working with our ever increasing senior population to improve their abilities in carrying out Daily Life Activities through simple exercise regimes such as stretching, basic yoga, walking and jogging.

Tennis, cycling, hiking. Music, movies, theater and reading. Travelling, cooking and doing volunteer work for local distance races such as the Shamrock Marathon and the Rock N Roll Half Marathon |

Carlton has been working as a coach and instructor in the golf industry since 2000. He has been creating fitness programs for golfers since 2006 to further help his clients reach their goals in golf and enrich their game. Carlton’s passion for coaching and his desire to help individuals reach their goals in golf broadened in 2010. Carlton wanted to be able to better serve the training requirements for clients of all demographics, which lead him to the NSCA. Carlton obtained his credential as an NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer in 2010.
Carlton has been working one-on-one as a coach for ten years and now looks forward to further helping people reach their health, fitness, and/or sport specific goals.
Training Philosophy:
Coaching is all about communication, focus, and the environment. I feel the words "coaching" and "training" can be synonymous when it comes to helping someone reach their goals. Communication must be open and direct from the beginning. It is the coach’s job to listen to each client’s expectations and openly convey his expectations of the client. Continually balancing and updating expectations will keep the team functioning effectively to reach their goals. Focusing on what is possible will guide the client and coach to success. Whether focusing on the current exercise, the session, or a three month goal, the client and coach must keep focus consistent so the communicated goals and expectations are met. Finally, the environment for successful coaching must constantly be maintained as a fun atmosphere where learning can take place. Coaches must continually vary the training and come up with creative programming to promote this atmosphere. The coach’s job is to create this environment daily, where learning and improvement are nurtured so that communication and focus can continually lead to achievement of their goals.
Personal Interests:
When he is not in the gym or on the golf course, Carlton enjoys spending time with his family. With most of their time being devoted to their toddler, Ava - Carlton and Laura can be found doing anything from going to the zoo to completing a family workout (yes - Ava does squats and pushups too!). |

Matthew (Matt) Dancigers, Certified Personal Trainer
Certifications:
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aide Certified
Background:
Matt is a Virginia Beach native and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from James Madison University in 2001. He operated a small business in San Diego, CA for 8 years before moving back to Virginia Beach in 2009 with his wife and 2yr old daughter. He came to Town Center Fitness in early 2010. In addition to personal training he is currently undertaking the challenge of further education to achieve a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Fitness Interests:
"I love movement! It all started with the variety of sports that I was exposed to growing up in Virginia. From high school playing soccer, lacrosse, basketball, wrestling and swimming to surfing and snowboarding in my free time. While attending JMU I fell in love with camping and backpacking and continued on in San Diego where I added yoga and cross fit ideals to the mix, and I got to do it all, all year 'round! All this movement got me interested in recovery and the details of the human body and its mechanics.
I was inspired by the amazing capabilities of the human body that we all have within us."
Training Philosophy:
"Training is just that: Training. One day you cannot do something (read, math, ride a bike, squat press) and if you train yourself in the right ways, then later... well, you're reading this sentence aren't you! You are extremely adaptable to outside forces. You can ask yourself to push more and go longer or move faster and you will. This is where I, as a coach and trainer, come into it. From weight loss to mobility to performance, I am here to support and guide you through your training. I am here to help you do the work. Train. Adapt. Transform."
